REMCAM Statewide Projects
STATEWIDE PROJECTS: The REMCAM organization has historically funded projects of statewide application and impact. Our longest running project is the $CAP (Statewide Cooperative Acquisitions) Project, funded originally in 1973. Criteria for funding for the REMCAM Statewide Projects are based upon improving educational opportunities for students and supporting the needs of member REMCs. Projects represent equity of access to high-quality resources and the evolution of technology and delivery systems. A committee of REMCAM directors, chaired by the immediate past-president, is responsible for the selection of the projects. Funding for the projects comes from the annual REMCAM budget and State of Michigan Title 2D funds. Projects fall into two categories: long-term projects fostering technology innovation and meeting statewide needs and one-time pilot projects.
Current ProjectsCooperative Acquisitions Project (1977) | Established in 1977, the REMC Statewide Cooperative Acquisitions Project is provided as a service of your REMC for the schools of Michigan. The Project provides large volume bid prices on a variety of educational resources. As a result of this REMC Statewide Project, local schools in Michigan saved more than $25 million in 2006. Each tax dollar saved through this cooperative effort represents another dollar that is available for additional instructional needs. The project employs rigorous bidding processes and standards and meets all State of Michigan bidding requirements.
This program has been established through rules and regulations of the State Board of Education that enables for the aggregation of purchases from schools statewide which results in saved tax dollars and staff time.

Additional information is available at: | Discovery Education Streaming (2004) | The REMC Association first negotiated a three-year contract with Discovery Education in 2004. The Discovery contract expires statewide on September 30, 2007. REMCAM has recently negotiated a second three-year contract for the years 2007-2010. Pending approval by the REMC Association at its September meeting, subscription prices will be locked in for three years. These prices represent close to the lowest in the country. Additional information is available at: | REMC Online Project (2006) | First funded in 2006, the REMC Online Project was designed to capitalize on a successful, existing project. As part of Genessee ISD's curricular and technology programming, the GenNET Online Learning Project offered online learning courses from over eight accredited distance learning providers. Funding and support from the REMC Association extended the program services to every REMC member in the state. Additional information is available at: | RSVP - REMC Streaming Video Project (2004) | The REMC Association of Michigan provides a collection of nearly 300 full-length educational video titles that are aligned with the Michigan Curriculum Framework and delivered through Unitedstreaming. The RSVP project is available to all teachers in the State of Michigan. If you already have a subscription to www.unitedstreaming.com , these titles are incorporated into the larger video library. If you don't have a current subscription, you can access just the 300 titles through the same website at the United Streaming website. Please contact your local REMC staff to obtain access. This project also provides an extensive image library, clip art gallery, and other teacher resources designed to accompany the video content. Additional information is available at: | REMCStreamNet (2005) | REMCStreamNet is a REMCAM funded initiative to deliver televised educational conference and professional development events to users around the state of Michigan via the Internet. The network is a cooperative project with Merit and Apple Computers. It reduces bandwidth utilization for REMCs and improves streaming performance, while simultaneously increasing the number of streams available to users in areas served by participating REMCs.

New & Upcoming ProjectsLand Use Project (2007) | In February of 2003 Governor Granholm formed the Michigan Land Use Leadership Council. Students in this project construct meaning about land use policy by engaging experts and fellow students. Participating students, using a WebQuest as a guide, will use the Internet, local intranets, blogs and videoconferencing to engage Land Use Experts in conversations about land use in their communities. This project offers students between grades 6 and 8 the opportunity to participate in a realistic unit that meets many of the METS and Online Learning Experience requirements.

| Robofest Competition (2007) | To build interest in robotics, the REMC Association is funding a regional Robofest competition in conjunction with the Student Showcase at the 2008 MACUL conference in Grand Rapids. All levels of Robofest competition are being proposed to provide opportunity for students to be a part of this event.
With the rigors of the new high school graduation requirements and the need for all students to take math and science courses, it is necessary to reach all students. Robotics education allows students to be successful in physics, algebra, and geometry. Winners will go on to compete at the World Championship competition held at Lawrence Technological University with the winners receiving a $2,500 renewable four year scholarship at Lawrence Technology University.

Past & Retired ProjectsMITV - Michigan Instructional Television (1983) | The MITV program was first funded in the early 1980's to address the need of high-quality instructional television programming. Programs were previewed and selected for statewide distribution with a full range of rights: duplication, broadcast, and circulation. Titles were reviewed annually for accuracy, relevance and timeliness. The process assured that the collection remained viable and formed the cornerstone of local district and regional video collections.
The MITV program was disbanded on June 30, 2005 in order to help facilitate the move towards a multi-REMC digital collection (RDC). A number of series/titles purchased by MITV have use rights which extended beyond June 30, 2005. The guidebooks below accurately reflect those series/titles which REMCs can continue to make available to Michigan educators. REMCs needing copies of these series should use the Purchasing MITV Master Order Form below to request copies from REMC 19W/Lenawee ISD.
| M-CODEC MI Compressed Opportunities .....Curriculum (2002) | In 2002, the REMC Association established a three-year pilot to place compressed video sites in Michigan content provider locales: the M-CODEC Project (Michigan Compressed Opportunities to Deliver Enhanced Curriculum). In the fall of 2003, the Association placed a CODEC in the Cranbrook Institute of Science, the Michigan State Museum and the Gerald Ford Museum. In the Fall of 2004, they placed CODECs in the Port Huron Museum of Art and History and the Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum.
During the 2004-05 school year, the 5 REMC MCODEC sites made 224 classroom connections that reached approximately 5,000 students in Michigan, nine other states, Canada and Taiwan.
Four of the original five sites continue to be active providers of highly relevant classroom field trips. M-CODEC is the perfect example of a highly successful project: designed, funded and mentored by the REMC Association to become self-sustaining.
