Microsoft Office Online and 365
Microsoft offers two types of FREE accounts,
Office 365 (for business and education) and Office.com
Both of these let you store your files in a OneDrive "cloud" or online storage space. What is OneDrive? (short video from Microsoft)
If your school has Office 365, then each student and teacher receives unlimited storage. Check with your teacher (teachers can sign up for a free education account) for a username and passcode to use.
If your school does NOT have Office 365, you can signup for a Free Office 365 Education account (requires using a valid school email address), otherwise go to Office.com to sign up for a free account (see the side menu note about Office.com).
The Quests for this Collaboration series will focus on using the Word program for Microsoft 365.
Sign up for a Microsoft Account only if you don't already have one provided for you.
Continue on to Quest 1: Formatting Tools
Office.com was known previously as Office Online, and only provides online apps, not programs that you download to your own device. You will have access to four main apps (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote). Your files will be saved and stored on the Microsoft OneDrive, not to your own device. Other apps can be added.
You get basic file storage (5 GB or more), and can purchase additional space as needed.
These apps are not as fully packed with features as the desktop Office 365 programs. The basic formatting and editing features will be present, but not additional ones.
