Searching for OER

There are several ways to find high quality open educational resources without weeding through everything that comes up in a traditional internet search.

One place to start is with a Google advanced search: https://www.google.com/advanced_search. In the search options, you will find a space labeled “usage rights.” Choosing the option “free to use, share, or modify” in this section will allow you to locate OER.

Although it’s not a true search engine, another way to search for OER is to do a Creative Commons Search: https://search.creativecommons.org. This site allows you to find openly licensed media, images, music, and videos. As a reminder, you should always verify that the resources you find are licensed under a creative commons license.
