Dive into OER Training

Welcome to Dive into OER Training

Educators are getting started with Open Educational Resources, called OER. To provide support, the REMC Association is offering “Dive into OER” with the goal of building a statewide network of advocates and facilitators to train peers. These individuals will learn about OER and the #GoOpen Michigan website during a two-day workshop, and then share this information within their school communities.

Participation

We are looking for education professionals from a variety of backgrounds including curriculum, technology, district and building administrators, and classroom teachers to become Dive into OER advocates and facilitators. Participants do not need any previous experience with OER.

By registering for Dive into OER, participants commit to the following:

  • Attend the entire two-day workshop
  • Support two local OER events following the workshop. Ideally, participants would lead one local event and lend support to a second one
  • Become an OER advocate in their Michigan county.

Participants will receive:

  • Free attendance at the two-day Dive into OER workshop, with lunch provided
  • Time and supports to plan an OER workshop in participants’ home school or district, or at the county level
  • Ongoing supports to finalize and lead the local Dive Into OER workshop(s)
  • Collaboration within a network of educators passionate about OER
  • $150 stipend (after they have fulfilled all project commitments)

Registration

The two-day Dive into OER workshop is free and offers 10 free SCECHs.  To see where prior participants are from check out this map.

Questions About the Local Dive Into OER Sessions Offered by Trained Participants

Q: Will participants offer the exact same training back at their local district/county?
A: They can, however, it is actually preferable if participants craft training events that incorporate OER into their existing repertoire.

Q: How long will the training be back at the local level?
A: Each participant will craft their own to meet current needs.  Some may schedule an hour-long introduction to OER session, some may have a full day OER workday, with a lot of variability in between.

Q: What other resources are available to Trained Participants?
A:

Questions About Being a Dive Into OER Participant

Q: What are you looking for in participants?
A: A willingness to work with other educators; an openness to applying the training ideas and materials in ways that make sense within current jobs.

Q: How will the stipend be paid?
A: The stipend will be paid to the participant’s place of employment to offset travel, sub and other costs.

Q: I work at a small school so will not be able to impact as many people - can I still facilitate?
A: YES! In a perfect scenario, we would be training at least one educator in every school district.

Q: I am interested in this, but at this time unable to attend any of the offered training sessions.  What can I do?
A: Still fill out the registration form, but when you get to the question asking if you want more information or want to sign up for the training, use the Other option to share your interest.  If we add training sessions in the future, we will be sure to reach out to you.  We also will be able to share information regarding other OER events.
