A Bit About MeL:
- Michigan eLibrary is an educational portal available to any Michigan school, library or Michigan resident. All schools have access to this through their school and public libraries.
- Resources in MeL: 80+ eResources comprised of full text magazines and newspapers, and primary source documents, practice tests for GED, ACT, Careers, SAT, and much more.
- Reliability: The databases have been checked for validity and accuracy which makes them more reliable than a search performed within a search engine like Google.
1. Create a word processing document that is shareable online (e.g. Google or Office 365) to use as you go through this unit.
2. Identify a topic for research or content area to be studied. Title your document with this topic name and save and share it with your instructor.
3. Go to MeL (http://mel.org).
4. While at MeL, click on the icon for Kids on the main page or eResources on the navigation bar.
- If you are an elementary teacher, Britannica School Elementary, World Books Kids and Explora Primary are good choices.
- If you are a secondary teacher, Britannica School Middle and High, Opposing ViewPoints and Explora for High School are excellent choices.
5. Conduct a search on the topic chosen using at least two of the resources. Identify the resources you used and place them in your word processing document.
6. Create a table or chart in your word processing document to compare/contrast the information found in the MeL resources you selected for:
