Making IT Happen Award Winners

The REMC Association of Michigan is pleased to honor Judy Bowling and Kerry Guiliano with the 2023 Making IT Happen award. This prestigious award honors outstanding educators and leaders who demonstrate extraordinary commitment, leadership, courage and persistence in improving digital learning opportunities for students.

It was created by the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE). Since its inception, more than 500 educators from around the world have received the award.

The spirit of the Making IT Happen award aligns with REMC’s mission to provide proactive leadership to Michigan’s educational community, to support quality teaching and the effective use of educational technology. Ms. Bowling and Ms. Guiliano exemplify this through their leadership of the Promoting STEM Through Literature project (PTSL).

PTSL is designed to get students excited about science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) by involving them in the design thinking process through literature. Ms. Bowling and Ms. Guiliano have been instrumental in selecting books with a STEM connection. They create book cards for each book that includes lesson plans and a design challenge that is FREE for any educator to use.

Judy Bowling serves as the Instructional Technology and Library Consultant for Wayne RESA, as well as the Director of REMC 20. Kerry Guiliano is the Instructional Technology Coach for Melvindale-Northern Allen Park Schools. Both are the co-managers of Promoting STEM Through Literature. They were honored during our REMC Summer Inservice over the summer.
